If you believe in the inherent goodness or the special nature of human beings, you're talking to the wrong person. If you believe that humanity is a quality defined by DNA, you're talking to the wrong person. If you think that most of the members of our species are ready to deal with things in a reasonable, intelligent manner, without prejudice, bias, or fear, you're talking to the wrong person.

If you believe people COULD EVENTUALLY become that way... even if they've got a LONG way to go to get there... then at least we're on the same page.

His understanding was so keen
That all things which he'd felt, heard, seen,
He could interpret without fail
If he was in or out of jail.
He wrote at Inspiration's call
Deep disquisitions on them all,
Then, pent at last in an asylum,
Performed the service to compile 'em.
So great a writer, all men swore,
They never had not read before.
--Jorrock Wormley
